The 'video game' that I am reviewing is a a Mad Libs game. As a kid I always loved to play mad libs, and I think that this is a great way for students to have the chance practice identifying nouns, verbs, adverbs, and adjectives.
What I like about this game, is that it gives word options for the students to choose, OR they can put their own words in. This way, if the students are confused or need assistance it is available for them.
There are a number of sites that offer this game, I liked this one because there was colour, and movement, which is more interesting and engaging than the plain white ones offered on the other sites.
Once the different words have been filled out, the students have a story to read. Not only are they practicing identifying their nouns, verbs, adverbs, and adjectives, but upon completion the students have a story to read. This encourages literacy, as the students will want to read the story that they have taken part writing.
I see this game connecting to the L.A. curriculum.
The Grade 2 LA curriculum states
4.2 Attend to Conventions
~ identify nouns and verbs, and use in own writing
~ identify adjectives and adverbs that add interest and detail to stories
